About your visit
We have examined you and have ascertained that you have broken the upper part of your radius. The fracture is not serious, and the bone is not out of place.
There is no need for surgery or a cast, as the fracture will heal on its own.
When you get home
Take pain-relieving medicine if you are in pain
You should take pain-relieving medicine if you are in pain. Pain-relieving medicine can be bought over the counter. Take only the amount of pain reliever recommended on the package. Contact your general practitioner if you need help managing the pain.
Rest your arm
You must avoid straining your elbow for the first one to two weeks. After that, you should use your arm as you normally would. Listen to your body and take a break if you feel pain.
Use a sling
If you are in a lot of pain, it can help to wear a sling on your arm occasionally. This is usually only necessary for the first one to three weeks. Brug en slynge
Exercises
You must do rehabilitation exercises
Start doing the exercises as soon as the pain allows. The exercises will help you regain mobility more quickly. We will show you how to do them.
Do the exercises 4–5 times a day. Exercise at a steady pace and avoid forcing a movement if you feel resistance or strong pain. If you feel pain while exercising, take a 30-minute break and then continue.
Exercise 1
Use a cloth and sit at a table sideways. Place the cloth flat on the table, and rest your hand and forearm on the cloth with your palm facing down.
- Move the cloth back and forth on the table using your hand and forearm.
Exercise 2
Stand or sit with your arm by your side and your elbow bent at a 90-degree angle.
- Hold your injured arm by the wrist and gently stretch your arm as far as you can without pain. Hold the stretch for 20–30 seconds.
Exercise 3
Stand with your elbow bent at a 90-degree angle. You can support your arm with your other hand if needed.
- Bend your elbow as much as possible.
- Then stretch your elbow out again.
Exercise 4
Sit with your upper arm close to your body. You can support it with your other hand if needed.
- Bend and stretch your elbow.
Exercise 5
Bend your arms at your elbow and hold them horizontally in front of you. You can also sit at a table and rest your forearms and hands in front of you on the table.
- The palms of your hand should be facing upwards. Then turn your palms over, facing downwards.
Check-ups
We will determine whether you need to come to the hospital for a check-up or whether you should visit your general practitioner. If you need to visit the hospital for a check-up, we will notify you via digital or physical post, or we will call you with information regarding time and place. If you need to visit your general practitioner, you will have to contact the clinic yourself and schedule an appointment.
If your condition deteriorates before your check-up, do not wait, but contact your general practitioner. If your condition deteriorates acutely, dial 1813 for the medical helpline.
